It’s officially preview magazine season in the world of college football. Creating a print magazine that previews the entire season is more difficult than ever before, with rosters changing so drastically during transfer portal windows. That hasn’t stopped the process for most of the publications, including Lindy’s, which has already hit newsstands with its 2024 preview.
It’s a tricky year for gauging Alabama’s football’s prospects. With Nick Saban off to the golf course and ESPN set, Kalen DeBoer in charge and two new schools in an SEC that doesn’t have divisions anymore, the variables are more numerous than usual.
Lindy’s predicted the Crimson Tide to finish fourth in the SEC this season. It notes the Tide’s quarterbacks as a positive but points out the loss of key talent on defense, including defensive back Caleb Downs and edge rusher Dallas Turner.
The magazine projected Georgia on top of the league, followed by Texas. Lindy’s also placed Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss ahead of the Tide.
Alabama is placed highly in the Lindy’s top 25. The Crimson Tide are ranked seventh nationally.
Georgia is ranked No. 1, followed by Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, Ole Miss and Michigan. Notre Dame, Missouri and Florida State round out the top 10.
Individually, Alabama had five players make the Lindy’s first-team all-SEC preseason list. Offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor, kicker Graham Nicholson, linebacker Deontae Lawson and defensive back Malachi Moore and punter James Burnip all earned the honor.
Second-team all-SEC nods from Alabama included running back Justice Haynes and offensive lineman Tyler Booker. Offensive lineman Parker Brailsford was named to the third team, along with linebacker Jihaad Campbell.
The Tide saw two players land on the Lindy’s all-American first team, in Brailsford and Nicholson. Booker was named second-team.
Quarterback Jalen Milroe was listed as the SEC’s top scrambler. The magazine ranked him as the No. 6 quarterback in college football for the upcoming season.
