GRAND RAPIDS – Western Michigan Christian’s girls soccer season came to a tough end in its Division 4 district final matchup on Friday.
The No. 1-ranked Warriors fell, 3-2, to host Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian. It was the second highly ranked local team the Mustangs took out this week. In the district semifinals, NorthPointe eliminated North Muskegon.
Emersyn Paling gave WMC a 1-0 lead early in the first half. The freshman striker blasted a shot from 20 yards out to put her team up a goal.
WMC looked to be in control of the contest, but a series of errors opened the door wide open for NorthPointe. Sophie Stob tied the score for the Mustangs with 12 minutes left in the first half. Stob then put her team up 2-1, less than a minute later.
Trailing 2-1 at halftime, WMC’s Nora Pollock tied the contest on another long-range goal for the Warriors.
NorthPointe battled back, and with 15 minutes left in regulation, Stella Oviatt put the Mustangs up for good.
WMC finishes the season at 11-2-2.
NorthPointe (16-3-2) advances to the Division 4 regional semifinals after defeating No. 3 ranked North Muskegon and No. 1 ranked WMC. NorthPointe will take on Shelby in the regional semifinal round.
