GEORGIA – (41NBC/WMGT) – GHSA Executive Director Robin Hines confirmed Friday morning that the 2024 High School Football Championship games will be played December 16-18, five days later than last season. The five playoff rounds will have an thanksgiving week off for the first time since 1905 due to scheduling conflicts.
The playoff dates will take place as followed:
Nov. 8-9: First round
Nov. 15: Second round
Nov. 22: Third round
Dec. 6: Semifinals
Dec. 16-18 Finals
In more GHSA news, the overtime format will be changing as well. This new OT format calls for a mandatory two-point attempt starting with the second overtime period; it used to be in the third OT. Now, starting with the third overtime period, each possession is simply a two-point try with no drives from the 15 yard line. Only a single play from the 3-yard line to determine the winner.
