Ogden High soccer had been a bit of a juggernaut in the early 2000s, winning half of the boys’ Class 3A championships in a six-year span. But those days, at least from the perspective of this year’s Tigers squad, were long in the past.
Tradition was resurrected, however, when Ogden took the 3A title this season with a 4-1 victory over Manti in the tournament finale. One of the goal scorers was Ben Points, whose 3-point game that day (he also had an assist) brought his totals to 14 goals and nine assists for the 2024 campaign.
“Ben has been our anchor and energy for our team,” Ogden coach Todd Scott said.
Points also did some kicking for the Tigers’ football team in the fall, before deciding to stick strictly with soccer. For the Ogden senior, it has paid off with an opportunity to play college ball at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan.
“I’m stoked. It’s going to be a fun time,” Points said.
Looking back at the recent championship, Points believes that it wasn’t necessarily just advanced skills on the pitch that made the difference this year for the Tigers, who fell to Morgan in the state semifinals during his junior season.
“I definitely think that this year’s team was much closer, as a family, than last year’s team,” Points said. “This year, it just seemed like everyone played for each other.”
