The Senegal national football team will be in action next month. They will be involved in two games for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the month of June.
The side will first take on DR Congo as hosts at Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade on June 7. Then a few days later, on June 9, they will travel to face Mauritania at Stade de la Capitale. The longstanding manager of the Lions of Teranga, Aliou Cissé, has given the names of the players for those fixtures. It is a 27-man squad list which also has a few big name players who are now playing in the Saudi Pro League.
Senegal seems to be having a solid group of players on paper but they failed to go deeper in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The eventual winners of the tournament, the Ivory Coast national football team, had kicked them out in the Round of 16 stage after a penalty shootout post a 1-1 draw.
At the 2022 FIFA World Cup which was held in Qatar, they had witnessed an exit at the same stage, the Round of 16. It was the England national football team who denied them entry to the next stage, the quarter-finals. Nevertheless, having already made four points to lead the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers Group B table, the nation led by Cissé are looking for more points with this squad in June.
