The USA’s Tori Penso (referee), Brooke Mayo (AR) and Kathryn Nesbitt (AR) are among the first eight women chosen to officiate at a men’s Copa America, which was founded in 1916 and is the world’s oldest continental national team championship.

Ismail Elfath (referee) and Armando Villarreal (VAR) are the other Americans among the 101 officials assigned by Conmebol for the 16-team tournament hosted by the USA June 20-July 14.
Penso, Mayo and Nesbitt, who at the 2023 Women’s World Cup became the first Americans to officiate a senior World Cup final, are also slated to officiate at Olympics in France July 24-Aug. 9.
Elfath refereed three games at the 2022 World Cup and served as fourth official for the final. Villarreal, who reffed the 2021 and 2023 MLS Cups, served as a VAR at the 2022 and 2023 World Cups.
