The football world may be waiting for the start of UEFA Euro 2024 and the Copa América next month, but there are other meaningful fixtures around the corner as well.
The Ivory Coast national football team will be looking to continue on their path to qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup this June. The nation had failed to feature in the last World Cup, the 2022 Qatar one. They have already built great momentum for this attempt.
Ahead of the upcoming two 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers fixtures, head coach Emerse Faé has released the player names set to play in June. It is a 26-man roster.
Faé has had an interesting journey so far with the Elephants. He was appointed on his birthday to take charge of a sinking ship in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. At that point in time, the tournament hosts, Ivory Coast seemed to be heading out of the group stage. But with the ability of the inspiring coach, things changed.
The Elephants ended up winning the title by the end. They had defeated Nigeria 2-1 in the finals by coming back from a goal down. After this epic journey, the short-term role was made full-time.
The Ivory Coast team have already played two matches of the qualifiers back in November 2023. They had won both games against Seychelles and Gambia with clean sheets in each. Now this June, they are about to face Gabon and later Kenya.
