Suspect in death of former Suncoast football player turns himself in – WWSB

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A person has turned himself in to authorities in connection with a shooting that claimed the life of a former Braden River football player and injured his brother, a current Auburn football player.
Darryl Brookins has turned himself into Sarasota County deputies, his attorney confirms to ABC7.
Brookins was wanted in connection with a shooting that happened Saturday at the Tallywood Centre in the 3400 block of 17th street. That shooting claimed the life of Tommie Battie IV. Tommie’s brother, Brian, who plays for Auburn football was also shot. According to Hugh Freeze, the head coach at Auburn University, Brian is currently on a ventilator. Four other victims, including Brian, were transported to the hospital.
Investigators haven’t released a motive. Brookins has been charged with murder, attempted murder, and as a felon in possession of a firearm. He will be booked into the Sarasota County Correctional Facility.
The godparents of Brian and Tommie have started a Gofundme to help with the cost of medical expenses and funeral costs.
