Inter Milan & Argentina FIFA World Cup Champions To Hold Contract Extension Talks This Week – SempreInter.com

Inter Milan and their captain Lautaro Martinez are set to hold another round of contract extension talks this week.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipate that the actual official extension still won’t be right on the way.
As things stand, Martinez is under contract with Inter until the end of June 2026.
However, by all indications the Nerazzurri want to extend their captain’s deal.
There have reportedly been talks between Inter and Martinez’s representatives for a number of months now. However, these have yet to result in an agreement.
That may not be far away, however.
Inter certainly won’t want things to drag on for too much longer. They will want clarity on the future of a key player like Martinez.
The contract negotiations have been seriously going on since at least the autumn.
Reports have indicated that Inter had hoped to even make a new deal for their captain official as early as January.
That hasn’t happened yet. The reason is fairly simple – money.
The Nerazzurri have made offers to significantly increase Martinez’s earnings. However, the 26-year-old and his agent have demanded that the club go even higher in their offer.
The Gazzetta note that a compromise should be attainable at around 9 million net per season plus add-ons.
That would make Martinez Inter’s highest earner by a considerable distance.
And this week will see another round of talks that will be important in getting to this point.
However, cautions the Gazzetta, these talks will not be decisive one way or another.
Even if Inter and Martinez come to a full agreement, the Argentine won’t be putting pen to paper right away.

A key reason for this is the fact that the transfer of Inter’s ownership from Suning to Oaktree Capital will prevent major decisions like contract extensions for around three weeks.
