The 74th FIFA Congress on Friday awarded the Women’s World Cup 2027 to Brazil, the first time the tournament will take place in South America.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The 74th FIFA Congress on Friday awarded the Women’s World Cup 2027 to Brazil, the first time the tournament will take place in South America.
In an open vote, Brazil was appointed to host the 10th edition of the competition after receiving 119 votes while the joint bid of Belgium, Netherlands and Germany received 78.
“This is a win for women’s football in South America, and for women’s football everywhere which FIFA works every day to improve and strengthen,” Brazilian Football Association president Ednaldo Rodrigues said in a statement. “You can be certain that, without wanting to be vain, we will try to stage the biggest and best FIFA Women’s World Cup of all. I hope you can all come to Brazil and enjoy the hospitality of our country.”
It is the first time that a FIFA Congress has voted on the hosts of the Women’s World Cup.
The United States and Mexico withdrew their joint bid three weeks ago, saying they wanted to concentrate on the 2031 tourney.
Brazil was in the running to host the 2023 Women’s World Cup, but dropped out due to difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
World Cup dates have not been confirmed. FIFA has allotted space between May 25-31 and July 2027 for the competition to take place.
