Brazil Awarded 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup; USA, Mexico Withdrew Joint Bid – Bleacher Report

Brazil has been named the host of the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup following a vote of the 211 member nations during the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday.

According to ESPN’s Emily Keogh, the vote came down to Brazil versus a joint bid from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
The United States and Mexico’s joint bid served as the third finalist before the countries decided to pull out of the running three weeks ago and focus on hosting the 2031 World Cup. The U.S., Mexico and Canada will host the 2026 Men’s World Cup.
South Africa withdrew its 2027 Women’s World Cup bid in Nov. 2023, also citing a drive to potentially host in 2031.
This will mark the first time a South American nation has hosted the Women’s World Cup, which began in 1991. China (twice), the United States (twice), Sweden, Germany, Canada, France and Australia/New Zealand have hosted in the past.
Brazil has previously hosted the men’s World Cup in 1950 and 2014. Rio de Janeiro notably served as home to the 2016 Summer Olympics.
