The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island, New York, was officially launched on 15 May, with the unveiling gaining widespread coverage across the United States of America, who are co-hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
A first glimpse of the brand new Stadium was unveiled by ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Ambassador Usain Bolt, a collection of cricketing legends, and sports icons from New York on Wednesday.
The Washington Post announced that “a cricket World Cup is coming to NYC's suburbs” in their headline covering the launch of the stadium.
The 34,000-seater stadium is believed to be the largest in the United States and will host eight matches at the T20 World Cup, including the iconic India-Pakistan game on 9 June.
The Washington Post highlighted that “cricket is the second most-viewed sport in the world after soccer” and as T20 USA Inc CEO Brett Jones said, the “out of this world stadium” is a fitting welcome to cricket in the USA.
Fox 5 New York highlighted that Nassau County was gearing up for USA hosting the T20 World Cup for the very first time in their coverage of the event.
CBS News gave an inside look into the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in their news coverage, pointing out that Long Island will see some of the “biggest matches” in the tournament.
At the event, the stars all signed a giant cricket bat, which will be present at the venue for all eight ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 matches hosted there between 3-12 June.
Forbes shed the spotlight on the India-Pakistan blockbuster that the brand new stadium is set to witness, with tickets already sold out for the game.
The publication hailed the upcoming contest as “one of the most anticipated cricket matches of all-time.”

Newsday and The New York Carib News also covered the event on their websites as did Barron's, which highlighted the launch made up of a star-studded line-up of New York sports stars, including John Starks (NBA/New York Knicks), Elena Delle Donne (WNBA/USA), Bartolo Colon (MLB/New York Yankees-Mets), Victor Cruz (NFL/New York Giants), and Ibtihaj Muhammad (Fencing/USA).
The Sun’s US Edition covered the reaction of fans on online media in their coverage of the event and hailed the newly built stadium as “impressive”.
The event marked the official final countdown to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in New York, with Sri Lanka and South Africa set to clash in the venue's first match on 3 June.
