Prep roundup: Fremont softball earns share of Region 1 title; Several soccer teams advance – Standard-Examiner

SYRACUSE — Ivee Johnsen batted 3 for 5 with three RBIs and one run scored, and pitched five innings with 11 hits, seven earned runs and three strikeouts to lead Fremont High softball to a 17-8 region win Tuesday at Syracuse, earning a share of the Region 1 title with Davis in the process.
Audrey Cooper batted 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored for Fremont (10-5, 8-2 Region 1). Savannah Palmatier went 2 for 4 with two walks and four runs scored. Brooklyn Himelright hit an RBI double.
Syracuse (9-10, 4-6) did not report stats.
SOUTH JORDAN — Jewel Korth hit a two-run home run but it wasn’t enough as Davis fell at Bingham (17-5-1).
Jada Chilton had two hits with one RBI and one run scored for Davis (16-5). Layryn Hall batted 2 for 3 and scored one run. Serena Roth went 2 for 2.
WEST JORDAN — Talon Marble batted 4 for 5 with two doubles, five RBIs and three runs scored as No. 5 Bear River eliminated No. 8 Ridgeline (19-9) in the 4A state tournament.
Gehrig Marble batted 4 for 5 with a triple and drove in three for Bear River (21-8). Kolten Summers had three hits and Thomas Summers hit an RBI double. Holden Potter went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and scored three runs, and earned the win with eight hits, five earned runs and seven strikeouts over five innings.
The Bears advance to play at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday against the loser of Tuesday’s nightcap between No. 1 Dixie and No. 4 Desert Hills.
WEST JORDAN — Talon Marble batted 2 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored but No. 5 Bear River fell to No. 4 Desert Hills (20-8) late Monday night in 4A double-elimination bracket play. Easton Goodliffe drove in three for Bear River.
The game concluded late after a lightning delay paused the action at 9:05 p.m. with DH leading 8-5 through five innings.
FARMINGTON — Jaxon Beynon kept a clean sheet as No. 1 Farmington blanked No. 16 Layton in the 6A second round.
Josh Foster scored a brace for Farmington (14-1). Cole Janke netted the game’s first goal. Luke Haven tallied one assist.
The Phoenix will host No. 8 Skyridge or No. 9 Salt Lake Academy in the quarterfinals at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Layton ends the year with a 4-10 record.
PLAIN CITY — After ending full time tied 2-2, No. 12 Davis outshot No. 5 Fremont 3-2 on penalty kicks to win in the 6A second round.
Davis (5-8) did not report stats. The Darts will travel to face No. 4 Pleasant Grove (10-5) at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Payton Clark and Ezra Morrison each netted once for Fremont, who ends the year with a 9-5 mark.
ROY — Xander Allred and Colby Frokjer shared a clean sheet as No. 7 Roy blanked No. 23 West Jordan (6-10) in the 5A second round.
Bronson Belnap netted twice in the second half for Roy (12-3), in the 47th and 54th minutes. Corben Schuffenhauer netted in the 71st minute. Aidan Hart tallied two assists.
Roy next hits the road for a quarterfinal match Friday at No. 2 East (13-2).
OGDEN — Felipe Rocha scored four goals to lead No. 1 Layton Christian past No. 16 Tooele (9-6) in a 4A second-round game played at the Spence Eccles Sports Complex.
Joao Gabriel Silva added two goals and an assist for Layton Christian (14-1). Rafael Furlani netted once.
The Eagles will host No. 8 Desert Hills (9-6) at 4 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals.
East 7, Bonneville 1 (5A second round)
PLEASANT VIEW — No. 15 Weber swept No. 18 Layton 25-16, 25-15, 25-13 in the 6A first round.
Sam Cruz paced Weber (12-12) with 11 kills and six digs. Chris Kidd added nine kills and four blocks. Tate Vernon tallied eight kills and Jake Ahlmer dished 27 assists. The Warriors advance to the 6A second round at Utah Valley University, facing No. 2 Westlake at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Layton ends their inaugural season with a 1-15 record.
CLEARFIELD — No. 11 Clearfield outlasted No. 22 Highland (3-11) in a marathon 5A first-round contest. Set scores were 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, 18-25, 15-11.
Gabe Christensen tallied 22 kills for Clearfield (15-12). Tayvian Singletary posted eight kills and eight blocks while Sebastian Rodriguez added six kills and two blocks.
Clearfield next faces No. 6 Hunter in the second round, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at UVU.
