Global (13 May 2024) — The Springbok Women and South Africa are basking in victory thanks to the team’s winning performance at the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup which also successfully qualified them them to compete in the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup!
After a formidable defeat over a determined Madagascar side (46-17) yesterday, the Springbok Women successfully kept their place as champions of the continent in women’s rugby—a title our country wears with pride.
Now, the Springbok Women have the chance to make South Africa world champions in England next year in what would be an epic accomplishment for our country not just in adding another Rugby World Cup victory to our tally, but to inspire future generations and more support for women in sport.
Reflecting on the victory, captain Nolusindiso Booi shared:
“We play to inspire the next girl or woman to pick up a rugby ball and I think this win and qualifying for the Rugby World Cup will mean so much to those who want to see the game grow. We are on the big stage and belong there, so the next steps are important. We laid the foundation for the next phase and it is so exciting to be part of it. Credit to the players, but so much praise must go to the coaches who prepared us so well for this.”
Head Coach Louis Koen added: “Qualifying for the Rugby World Cup is a massive boost to all involved and I can only thank the stakeholders, players and management who walked this journey together. The game can only grow and improve from here.”
Meanwhile, in other epic qualification news, two South African relay squads have qualified for the Olympics thanks to fierce efforts that made us all proud.
