India are set to feature in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup scheduled in the West Indies and USA. There has been a lot of speculation regarding the wicket-keeper’s spot in India’s XI, with Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson in contention. Interestingly, no Indian wicket-keeper other than MS Dhoni owns over 10 T20 WC dismissals. Have a look at wicket-keepers with most such dismissals.
Former Indian captain Dhoni has the most dismissals as a wicket-keeper in the T20 World Cup. In a career spanning over a decade, he recorded 32 wicket-keeping dismissals, a tally that includes 21 catches and 11 stumpings. His lightning-fast stumpings across formats remain a treat for the fans. Dhoni owns one dismissal per innings as a wicket-keeper in the tournament.
Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal remains the only other wicket-keeper with 30 or more dismissals in the T20 World Cup. Akmal recorded 30 dismissals in as many matches, including 12 catches. His tally of 18 stumpings is the most for a wicket-keeper in the T20 World Cup. Like Dhoni, the former Pakistan wicket-keeper also owns one dismissal per innings in the tournament.
West Indies’ Denesh Ramdin follows Akmal on this list with 27 wicket-keeping dismissals in 29 matches. It is worth noting that no other West Indies wicket-keeper has more than one dismissal in the T20 World Cup. Ramdin has 18 catches and nine stumpings in this regard. The former Caribbean wicket-keeper participated in the tournament between 2007 and 2016.
While Dhoni remains in a league of his own, Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara is among the most technically sound wicket-keepers in international cricket. The former Lankan wicket-keeper was known for his sharp catches and stumpings behind the stumps. He is the only other wicket-keeper with over 25 dismissals in the T20 World Cup. His 26 dismissals include 12 catches and 14 stumpings.
