GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – The final couple of games of the High School Girls Soccer season is here, with two Grand Valley rivals, Grand Junction and Fruita Monument looking for a critical victory.
When these two met a couple of weeks ago, the Wildcats emerged with a 4-1 win.
That game was a defensive battle early on, this one fit that same description as well early on.
The Wildcats broke through for the first goal of the game about halfway through the first half, but both defenses once again bore down and did not allow many shots on goal.
It took a breakaway by the Fruita Monument Sophomore Brook Cox to get the second goal of the game in net, to give Fruita a 2-0 lead. That same score would hold, as Fruita Monument completes the season sweep over Grand Junction winning 2-0.
Down in Montrose, the Red Hawks completed their unbeaten season, and clinched the Southwestern League Title, their first since 2015. The Red Hawks clinched after taking down a strong Palisade Bulldogs team that had eleven wins on their resume entering play.
But the Bulldogs could not break through a Montrose defense that had only allowed three goals across their last six games played.
