The IOF Ski Orienteering World Cup 2024-2025 and U23 World Cup got off to a great start with three races in Sjusjøen, Norway this past weekend.
And it is well-known athlete names who are placed at the top of the World Cup standings after the first of three rounds of the international ski season.
The competition is closest among the women, where Daisy Kudre-Schnyder (EST) collected 240 points in Norway, while Anna Ulvensøen (NOR) follows in second place with five points less.
The Estonian, who has won the overall World Cup twice before, won Friday’s sprint in Sjusjøen and was in the top 3 on both Saturday and Sunday, while Ulvensøen came back after an eighth place in the sprint and won both the middle distance and the pursuit race.
In third place with 190 points follows Amanda Yli Futka, who rode impressively all three days.
The 20-year-old Finn won the gold medals in the U23 World Championships and therefore leads the U23 World Cup with 300 points. Here, Maria Hoskari (FIN) is in second place with 220 points, while Alina Niggli (SUI) is third with 180 points.
Good start on title defence
In the men’s World Cup standings, Jørgen Baklid (NOR) is well on his way to defending his title with three wins on home soil. He therefore has 300 points, while his closest rival, Jonatan Ståhl (SWE), follows with 260 points. The two shared the victory in Friday’s sprint, while Ståhl came second in both Saturday’s and Sunday’s competitions.
Another Norwegian, Vegard Gulbrandsen, is in third place with 140 points.
The men’s U23 World Cup is led by Teodor Mo Hjelseth (NOR) with 225 points, while Isak Lundholm (SWE) is close behind with 210 points. Defending U23 champion Niklas Ekström (FIN) is listed with 200 points after the races in Norway. He was racing strong, but skipped a control in the middle distance and therefore received no points on Saturday.

The seven best results count towards this year’s World Cup, which consists of nine races.
The SkiO World Cup continues in Germany from 15-17 February and concludes from 21-23 March at the European Ski Orienteering Championships in Finland.
