Friendly reminder that Fort William Henry Museum’s holiday offerings are available through Feb. 23 and The Wild Center’s Wild Lights will be on display through Feb. 22. There is also a Winter Wander Walk scheduled for Jan. 18, presented by the Adirondack Interpretive Center in Newcomb (Future walks are set for Saturdays – January through March – beginning at 1 p.m.)
Lake Placid Center for the Arts presents juried art show, “Metamorphosis” beginning Thursday, Jan. 16 through Saturday, March 1:

The 2025 Metamorphosis exhibit is a celebration and an exploration of change, and the myriad ways we encounter transformation in our lives and the world around us.
Examples can be simple, like an artist trying a new medium; familiar, like the change of seasons or a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly; or rare, like thousands of years of heat and pressure turning coal into diamonds.

January’s Spotlight Artists are The Allens (Shamim and Billy—no relations) and Bill Chamberlain. Billy Allen owned the Waterhole in Saranac Lake and brought many musicians here. Since selling it, he has been busy writing his own songs. Joining Billy are Shamim Allen and Bill Chamberlain. Shamim may be familiar to folks from the Dust Bunnies. Bill is an accomplished instrumentalist. Most recently he was heard playing with the traditional group High on the Hog. Thanks to the generosity of sponsor, St. Josephs Addiction and Treatment Centers, this event is free and open to all.

Fort Ticonderoga announces a living history event “Necessary for the Rigour of the Climate” on Saturday, Jan. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.:
Fort Ticonderoga invites history buffs and families alike to step back in time with a special REAL TIME REVOLUTION™ living history event “Necessary for the Rigour of the Climate.”

This immersive experience will transport visitors to a pivotal moment in the American Revolution. Highlighted programming will recreate wintertime life for Fort Ticonderoga’s guard of British soldiers and their families, who made their homes inside the fort’s barracks.

Freestyle Aerials World Cup in Lake Placid on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 18 and 19:
Making its long-awaited return to Lake Placid’s Olympic Jumping Complex for the first time since 2019, the event will feature two thrilling evenings of competition “Under the Lights,” complete with announcers (Sean Smith & the “MC From Across The Sea” Stuart Hemsley), live Red Bull DJ, fire pits, giveaways, and more. Saturday will feature individual competitions for men and women.

Watch Olympic gold medalist Christopher Lillis, and other members of Team USA, including Winter Vinecki, as they compete against the world’s best. Sunday will feature an exciting mixed team event that just debuted recently with fierce competition in the last Winter Olympic Games. Each team consists of three skiers, with at least one of each gender choosing either to have two men and one woman or the other way around. Their individual scores are added together and the team with the highest overall score wins. The event will feature food trucks serving up a lineup of food and beverage options.

Santanoni winter weekends set for Jan. 18-20, Feb. 15-17, and March 15-16:
The Santanoni Partners, Adirondack Architectural Heritage, the Town of Newcomb, and the Department of Environmental Conservation, are happy to announce the dates for the 2025 Santanoni Winter Weekends: January 18-20, February 15-17, and March 15-16. During the three Winter Weekend events, cross-country skiers and snowshoers are able to go inside the Gate Lodge and Main Camp buildings and take interpretive tours with AARCH volunteers. The Artist’s Studio, a stone building near the main camp on the shores of Newcomb Lake, will be open as a warming hut. The Artist’s Studio will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
Naturalist-led snowshoe hike at Up Yonda Farm on Saturday, Jan. 18:
If you’re looking to try snowshoeing for the first time or want to learn about winter in the Adirondacks, reserve a spot on a Naturalist-led hike, happening weekends in January and February at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Snowshoe rentals in child and adult sizes are available for on-site use.
On a Naturalist-led hike we’ll cover the basics of snowshoeing while you learn about animal tracking, winter ecology, and the history of Up Yonda Farm. During the program, we’ll traverse about a mile over the course of an hour, and will include a stop at our scenic vista point overlooking Lake George. Your program will finish near the Farmhouse, where a campfire and hot cocoa will be available!
Reservations are recommended via nonrefundable reservation deposit of $1/person at upyondafarm.com. Walk-ins will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. If there is not enough snow on your selected weekend, we will convert the snowshoe to a Naturalist-led hike instead.
