The 2024 high school football season in the Greater Savannah area was filled with memorable performances.
New Hampstead quarterback Ra’Shawn Truell put his name in the state record book as he broke the mark for passing yards in a game when he threw for 635 in a loss to Perry. His favorite target, senior Kamari Maxwell, who has signed with Austin Peay, had three games with at least 271 yards receiving with a career-high 21 catches for 302 yards in the Perry game.
Benedictine senior Third Scroggins, who has signed with Miami, led the state in sacks, across all classifications, this season with 21 in a dominant defensive campaign.
Savannah Christian senior Zo Smalls, who has signed with Charleston Southern, closed out his career with nearly 5,000 rushing yards. His teammate, 5-star defensive lineman Elijah Griffin, had a stellar final year before signing with the University of Georgia.
All of the players mentioned were All-Greater Savannah first-team selections and are in the running for Player of the Year honors.
This is a chance for readers to weigh in and select their own Player of the Year in an open poll with no restrictions on voting. The poll will close on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m.
