FIFA, world football's governing body, has officially lifted the multiple transfer bans imposed on Young Africans (Yanga) last year, clearing the way for the club to finalize its January transfer dealings.
The development comes as a major boost for the 30-time league champions, with the Premier League transfer window set to close at midnight.
Young Africans had been prohibited from signing new players due to unresolved disputes with former players Gael Bigirimana, Hafiz Konkoni, and Augustine Okrah.
The trio had lodged complaints with FIFA over unpaid wages, leading the Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) to order Young Africans to settle the debts within 45 days.
However, the club failed to comply, prompting the players to request sanctions, resulting in a transfer ban.
After months of negotiations, FIFA has confirmed that all disputes have been resolved and the related files closed, effectively ending the sanctions.
This resolution is a welcome relief for Young Africans, who can now bolster their squad ahead of the season’s crucial second half.
Trailing league leaders Simba SC by just one point, the club is poised to battle for both domestic and continental honours.
On the continental stage, Young Africans remain active in the CAF Champions League, following a hard-fought 1-0 win against Sudan’s Al Hilal last Sunday.
Stephen Aziz Ki’s early goal kept their knockout stage hopes alive, with a decisive clash against MC Alger scheduled for this Saturday.
The lifting of the ban allows Young Africans to register new players, potentially giving them a competitive edge.
Reports suggest that Congolese winger Jonathan Ikangalombo from AS Vita and former Simba right-back Israel Mwenda, recently signed from Singida Black Stars, will be added to the squad.
Ikangalombo has already arrived in Dar es Salaam to complete his registration, while Mwenda was announced as a new signing last month.
With the transfer restrictions now lifted, Young Africans are eager to secure their squad and strengthen their bid for success in both domestic and international competitions.
