Penn State football wide receiver Tyler Johnson and safety Mehki Flowers are no longer with the program, a Penn State Athletics spokesperson confirmed to Onward State on Monday. Both players are expected to enter the transfer portal.
Johnson appeared in 10 games as Nittany Lion and didn’t record any stats during his three seasons. He has two years of eligibility remaining. A Martinsville, Virginia native, Johnson was a three-star recruit in the class of 2022 and has been primarily a special teamer this season.
Flowers made 14 appearances across his three seasons in Happy Valley. He registered two tackles in 2023 as his only stats and appeared mostly on special teams.
Johnson left a room that signed three four-stars in Matthew Outten, Koby Howard, and Lyrick Samuel. Flowers left a safety room that lost KJ Winston and Jaylen Reed to the NFL Draft but brought back King Mack through the transfer portal on Sunday.
