Wolves sealed their first transfer of the January window earlier this week – and the club now have eyes on their next target.
Emmanuel Agbadou completed his move to Wolves from Reims, with Vitor Pereira officially addressing a problem position.
Agbadou was handed his Wolves debut by Pereira against Bristol City, and it was an assured performance from the Ivory Coast international on the left of a back three.
Supposedly, Wolves wanted to land Pereira two new defensive recruits this month.
But seemingly, a new forward may also be on the agenda for the new manager – and it looks as though Wolves could again turn to Ligue 1.
According to a report from Foot Mercato, Wolves are now interested in Toulouse star Wolves interested in Toulouse attacker Zakaria Aboukhlal.
And it’s actually claimed that Aboukhlal is Wolves’ new top target this month.
Foot Mercato claim Wolves are determined to strengthen offensively, with Aboukhlal having had a productive season so far over in France.
The 24-year-old – who was a part of the Morocco squad that reached the World Cup semi-finals in 2022 – has scored six goals and made two assists so far in 16 appearances across all competitions.
Given Wolves have been quite good in the final third this season, it seems surprising that the club may be looking at another forward.
But it could be that Wolves could lose one of their attacking options this month – and Hwang Hee-chan is starting to feel like the most likely player to depart.
Hwang recently scored in back-to-back games for Wolves. But the South Korea international has been very poor in the last couple of games.
Hwang seems shot of confidence, and it may be that Wolves consider a sale.
West Ham reportedly want Hwang, but with Julen Lopetegui having now left the London Stadium, it may be that their focus is on other targets.
But Hwang has interest from several clubs, and it’s not out of the question he could leave in the coming weeks.
And there’s an argument for Aboukhlal being an upgrade on Hwang, with the Morocco international having scored four more goals than Hwang this season.
He has 24 goals in 72 games for Toulouse, meaning a goals-per-game ratio of 0.33. Hwang has 24 in 111 for Wolves, giving him a goals-per-game ratio of just 0.22.
So identical goal contribution numbers, but Aboukhlal is statistically more efficient than Hwang in the final third.
