The Vacaville High girls soccer team won its league opener on Thursday night, defeating Rodriguez 5-1.
Vacaville went up early with a goal from Sophia Franzoni and a beautiful tap back assist from Sophia Brenes.
A few minutes later, Franzoni found the back of the net again, with a ball put through by Samantha MacNiven.
“A little sloppy on our passes and first touch was the message from coaches and captains at half time,” Vacaville head coach Jennifer Eggley said. “The team listened as they dominated the first 15 minutes of the second half and added a trio of goals.”
Samantha MacNiven found the net first with an assist from Franzoni.
Soon after Katie Thomas was fed a beautiful through ball from center back Kallie Stacey and finished her opportunity. The last goal was put away by Franzoni with an assist from MacNiven.
Vacaville is now 8-1-2 on the year and 1-0 in Monticello Empire League play.
The Vanden High girls soccer team lost 2-0 at home River City on Thursday night.
With the loss Vanden is now 2-4 and 0-1 in Monticello Empire League play.
Vanden’s next game is Tuesday against Will C. Wood.
Will C. Wood’s girls soccer team defeated Pioneer 1-0 on Thursday in the Monticello Empire League opener for the Wildcats.
Samantha Serr scored the lone goal for the Wildcats in the second half in the win. Silvia Rodriguez had a shutout as keeper for Wood.
Will C. Wood plays Vanden on Tuesday.
The Vacaville Christian girls soccer team cruised to a 9-1 win over Rio Vista on Thursday.
The Falcons were led by freshman Jayla Swindle, who scored five goals in the victory.
Ginette Nason and Mila Orick each scored two goals for the Falcons.
Vacaville Christian is now 6-1-1 in the Sierra Delta League. It’s next game is Thursday at Esparto.
