The Baylor School girls’ soccer program captured its 11th TSSAA state championship this past October, and three members of that title team were among the players honored as all-state selections by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association for the 2024 season.
The TSWA revealed its picks Thursday night, wrapping up the association’s fall sports recognition for this school year as those followed announcements of the all-state teams for football, volleyball, golf and cross country.
No one could get past Baylor’s defense at the Division II-AA state tournament in Chattanooga last fall, when senior keeper Sara Hill and Co. provided shutouts of Lipscomb Academy in a 1-0 semifinal victory at GPS and Knoxville Webb in a 2-0 win at Boyd Buchanan as the Lady Red Raiders repeated as champions.
Hill, a Kennesaw State signee, was named to the DII-AA all-state team along with center back Zoe Misenhimer and forward Emily Betterton, the pair of juniors who scored in the title triumph.
Baylor finished the season 18-4-2 overall with a 50-16 scoring advantage and a 9-0 mark in home games. The Lady Red Raiders allowed two or more goals in a match just twice all season on the way to being ranked 26th in the country by MaxPreps. Coach Curtis Blair’s 2024 team also became the first in program history to not allow a goal at the state tournament in consecutive years, doing so by shutting out two teams that had combined for 134 goals in the 2024 season.
The Chattanooga area had eight all-state girls’ soccer selections in all this year, including Chattanooga Christian School senior Lauren Alexander, the program’s all-time leading scorer.
Alexander, a Western Kentucky signee with a 3.8 GPA, finished her time with the Lady Chargers as a four-time all-state selection, having scored 59 goals while gathering 55 assists in 75 career games. CCS produced a 41-12-6 record over her last three seasons, which included a pair of appearances in the DII-AA state quarterfinals.
Silverdale Baptist Academy senior forward Brooke Bolton was named to the DII-A all-state team after producing her second straight season with more than 20 goals and 20 assists. The Carson-Newman signee finished her prep career with close to 100 goals.
Signal Mountain had a pair of Class AA all-state selections: defender Ella Usrey and fellow junior Adi Regrutto, a midfielder who had more than 15 goals and assists in a run to the state semifinals.
Arts & Sciences senior defender Anna Chen was named to the Class A all-state team after helping the Lady Patriots advance to the state tournament for a fourth consecutive year. Chen scored her team’s lone goal in a semifinal loss.
