TSSAA football: Northeast coach Sam Lipsey resigns – The Leaf-Chronicle

Northeast football coach Sam Lipsey has resigned after one season.
Lipsey led the Eagles to a 1-9 record, the win coming over Northwest in Week 10.
A star running back at Kenwood and Clarksville Academy, Lipsey got into coaching while still a student at Austin Peay. He had been with Northeast since 2017, serving as an assistant under Chad Watson, Brandon Clark and Claude Townsend, and he was promoted to head coach after Townsend was fired last spring.
While the Eagles posted their worst record in 16 years last season, they faced challenges with a young, inexperienced roster that had lost a large number of transfers to Kirkwood, which opened last fall. Kirkwood’s enrollment zone ate into Northeast’s, and current Northeast students had the option to immediately transfer to the new school without losing eligibility.
Northeast will be the fourth Montgomery County team with a new coach in 2024. Montgomery Central will be led by Wyatt Page, who replaced Corey Wright, and Northwest hired Mark Hall after parting ways with Reynaldo Pena. West Creek is still searching for a coach after Rob Gallowitz resigned in March.
