Clemson football has added its third scholarship transfer portal player in Alabama linebacker Jeremiah Alexander, according to On3 Sports.
With Alexander reportedly committing Wednesday, Clemson has taken more transfers in the 2025 recruiting cycle (three) than in the previous six years of the portal’s existence (two).
Alexander, who chose Alabama over Clemson out of high school, recorded eight tackles over three seasons with the Crimson Tide. He has two years of eligibility remaining. He joins defensive end Will Heldt and wide receiver Tristan Smith as the incoming transfers who will try to help propel Clemson back to the College Football Playoff.
Alexander chose Clemson over Auburn, Ole Miss and Oklahoma.
Here’s how Alexander will fit with Clemson next season:
Alexander, listed at 6-foot-2 and 249 pounds at Alabama, had a limited role in his three seasons with the Crimson Tide, playing mostly on special teams. He is entering his fourth season and is eyeing a greater role with two years of eligibility remaining.
Clemson still has depth issues with its edge rushers and linebackers, and Alexander could help fill those needs depending on where he plays. He played at inside and outside linebacker at Alabama and could be a key asset for Clemson in 2025.

Clemson needed to bolster its defensive end and linebacker unit, and Alexander can add depth to either group. Alexander was rated as one of the top edge rushers coming out of high school in 2022 and could become a key rotational piece on Clemson’s defensive line.
With linebacker Barrett Carter’s eligibility ending and inexperience and injuries behind linebackers Wade Woodaz and Sammy Brown, Clemson needs depth. Alexander could be that critical player and be used when Clemson goes with a three-linebacker set.
The portal closed Dec. 28, but players who participated in postseason games have five days to enter, which was the case for Alexander. Players on teams that undergo a head coaching change outside the traditional window will have 30 additional days to enter as well.
Players can commit to a new school at any time, whether or not it is within the transfer window. Players hoping to enroll in time to be eligible for spring practice must commit by early January, but players who enter the portal in the fall are allowed to commit and then join the team during the summer.
