Netflix and FIFA have reached an historic agreement that will see the streaming platform become the home of the FIFA Women’s World Cups in both 2027 and 2031.
The groundbreaking deal marks a world-first with the two tournaments set to be broadcast on a major streaming platform not normally reserved for sport.
Earlier in the year, Netflix dipped a toe into the world of elite sport, announcing that they would show the NFL’s two Christmas Day games as well as boldly moving to secure the rights to show the boxing bout between former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson and YouTuber Logan Paul.

The deal reflects the huge surge in popularity for the women’s game over the past few years. As of yet, it is not known whether or not a subscription or an extra, World Cup-specific package will be needed to watch the games.
The 32-team, 64-game tournament in 2027 will be held in Brazil and played between June 24 and July 25. Spain, who won the 2023 tournament in Australia and New Zealand, are the defending champions and will look to keep hold of their status as the top side in the women’s game.
The location of the 2031 tournament has not yet been announced, although the US are tipped to make a bid.

“This is a landmark moment for sports media rights,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino said. “As a marquee brand and FIFA’s new long-term partner, Netflix has shown a very strong level of commitment to growing women’s football.
“This agreement sends a strong message about the real value of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the global women’s game. FIFA and Netflix partnering together makes this a truly historic day for broadcasting and for women’s football.”
As for Netflix, they promised that “studio shows and top-tier talent will supplement coverage with commentary and entertainment. And in the lead-up to the tournament, Netflix will produce exclusive documentary programming spotlighting the top players, their journeys, and the explosion of the sport around the globe.”
