LORETTO, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Loretto Police Department arrested a former football president who is accused of statutory rape on Friday.
The LPD said 43-year-old James Cromwell turned himself in on Friday morning to face aggravated statutory rape charges.
LPD received information about a rape involving Cromwell and a 14-year-old girl on April 1 and detectives were able to get an indictment for Cromwell following an investigation over the next three days with the help of the district attorney and the Kentucky State Police.
Cromwell was indicted on April 24 on the charge of aggravated statutory rape, according to LPD. He was consequently removed from his role with the football program, then he disappeared.
Loretto Police was actively looking for Cromwell before he turned himself in around 10 a.m. on Friday.
