Oregon football head coach Dan Lanning was named a Dodd Trophy finalist Tuesday, given to the nation’s best head coach by the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Peach Bowl, Inc.
Lanning was named a finalist along with South Carolina’s Shane Beamer, Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham, Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman and Army’s Jeff Monken.
Lanning has led Oregon is a perfect 13-0 record and a Big Ten championship in the Ducks‘ first season in the conference after a title-game win against Penn State earlier this month.
The third-year head coach is 35-5 and 2-0 in bowl games since arriving in Eugene, and he helped the Ducks earn the No. 1 seed in this year’s College Football Playoff.
Dillingham, a former Lanning assistant in his second season as the head coach at Arizona State, is a fellow finalist after guiding the Sun Devils to the College Football Playoff and a Big 12 title.
