Two-time World Cup-winning captain Daren Sammy will be West Indies men’s cricket team’s all-format head coach. Cricket West Indies (CWI) Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe confirmed the news during a quarterly press conference in St. Vincent. Daren Sammy’s tenure as West Indies all-format head coach will be effective from April 1, 2025. Notably, Sammy is already West Indies’ white-ball head coach, but an extra responsibility has been handed to him.
Former West Indies captain who led the team to two T20 World Cup titles has already made a positive impact as the white-ball coach since taking charge in 2023. His leadership has infused the team with renewed energy, resulting in promising performances in limited-overs cricket. Sammy will now extend his influence to the Test team, replacing Andre Coley as the head coach.

“Daren Sammy will be the Head Coach of all the Senior Men’s teams as of April 1, 2025. Announcement made by CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe at the Quarterly Press Conference in St Vincent moments ago,” Cricket West Indies’ statement on X read.

Under Daren Sammy’s guidance, the West Indies white-ball team has shown considerable improvement. In ODI cricket, the team has achieved a win-loss ratio of 1.250, winning 15 out of 28 matches. Similarly, in T20Is, they’ve secured a win-loss ratio of 1.428, winning 20 out of 35 matches. Sammy’s tactical acumen and motivational skills have instilled a sense of confidence and consistency in the team.
Daren Sammy was a valuable asset to the West Indies Test team. As a lower-order batter, he scored 1,323 runs at an average of 21.68, with one century and five half-centuries under his belt. Talking about his bowling, he picked 84 wickets at an average of 35.79. Sammy’s all-round abilities made him a crucial player for the West Indies in Test cricket.
Meanwhile, West Indies are currently playing a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. However, they suffered a seven-run defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in the series opener on December 16. Notably, West Indies notched a 3-0 ODI series sweep against Bangladesh recently.
