Travis Hunter took home the Heisman Trophy for 2024, becoming just the second player in Colorado history to do so, joining running back Rashaan Salaam, who won the award in 1994. Hunter is also the first two-way star to win it since Michigan's Charles Woodson in 1997
The Colorado two-way star won in the closest Heisman race since 2009, beating out Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, Miami quarterback Cam Ward and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
Joining Hunter for the ceremony were members of his family, Colorado coach Deion Sanders, rapper Lil Wayne and more.
Here’s everything you need to know about the latest recipient of the Heisman Trophy, including his family, upbringing and more.

Hunter’s parents are Travis Hunter Sr. and Ferrante Edmonds.
Hunter’s father ran track and played football for Boynton Beach High School in Florida. Hunter Sr. once ran a 10.82-second 100-meter race as a 15-year-old freshman and was on a 4×100-meter relay that set a school record.
Hunter Sr. also played semi-professional football for the Florida Football Alliance and Southern States Football League. He won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award for the SSFL in 2007.
Hunter Sr. was not in attendance for the ceremony on Saturday night, stating that he wanted to watch the award ceremony from home.
“I don’t want to go,” his father said, via the Palm Beach Post. “I want to be there when he gets married and when he gets drafted. I’m going to watch this from home.”
In March this year, Hunter surprised his mother with a new house in Savannah, Georgia.

Hunter has a younger brother named Trayvis. He plays high school football for Effingham County in Springfield, Georgia.
Trayvis is a sophomore from the class of 2027 and doesn’t have a 247Sports evaluation yet. According to MaxPreps, he caught 11 receptions for 203 yards his freshman year in 2023, including five total tackles. In 2024, he added 36 receptions for 496 yards.
Trayvis took an unofficial visit to Florida State earlier this season.

Hunter initially grew up in West Palm Beach Florida. When he was in high school, he moved to Suwanee, Georgia, where he played high school football at Collins Hill High School. He credited his mother in his Heisman speech for moving him to Georgia and out of the “bad area” that he lived in in Florida previously.
Hunter was a highly-touted recruit from the class of 2022. A former 5-star prospect per 247Sports and the No. 1 overall ranked player in the county, Hunter committed to Florida State for most of his recruiting process, but during the Early Signing Period in December 2021, he shocked the college football world when he flipped to HBCU Jackson State and signed with Deion Sanders’ team.
Hunter signed as the nation’s top cornerback and top prospect out of the state of Georgia in the class of 2022.
