County Administrator Jan Lesher said in a recent memo that soccer’s governing body, FIFA, is considering the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson as a team base camp for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 and World Cup 2026.
Base camps are where teams will train and rest for games scheduled in major cities across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
The 2025 Club World Cup, set for June and July, will feature 32 teams from six international soccer confederations, likely assigned to a base camp by the end of January.
As well, the complex is in an online brochure of 49 potential base camps for the 2026 tournament. The county says FIFA expects to add other potential locations throughout 2025 and will make decisions at the end of next year.
