The chances of Maduka Okoye representing the senior national team of Nigeria in the world cup qualifiers in March has been dealt a huge blow, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Okoye made his first start for the team in almost three years in their 1-2 lost to Rwanda at home in a dead rubber 2025 AFCON qualifiers. He was expected to maintain his push to reclaim his number one spot from Stanley Nwabali when the qualifiers resumes in March.
However that dream has been put on hold with Udinese announcing that the Nigerian has suffered a wrist ligament, which requires surgery and will keep him out for a while. It also brings an end to his constant run of games for the team since the start of the year when he was made first choice.
The time frame required for him to be back fully wasn’t mentioned by the club in their announcement of the setback he has suffered just before their game against Monza this weekend.
Per our checks , a wrist ligament injury with severe sprains can take several weeks to heal completely. Although the ligament usually heals in 8 to 12 weeks, it can take from 6 to 12 months for a full recovery.
