Alabama football is off to a strong start recruiting under first-year coach Kalen DeBoer and general manager Courtney Morgan.
The Crimson Tide, as of the end of the first day in the early signing period, owns the No. 2 signing class in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite and On3.
Texas is the only team ahead of Alabama on both sites.
For the 247Sports Composite, Georgia is No. 3, Oregon is No. 4 and Ohio State is No. 5. For On3, the Ducks are No. 3, Georgia is No. 4 and Ohio State is No. 5.
DeBoer praised the collaboration of Morgan, who followed him from Washington, with director of player personnel Bob Welton, a holdover from the staff under Nick Saban, as well as the overall staff.
“Courtney Morgan, as the general manager, just does such a good job,” DeBoer said. “Bob Welton and he have really done an amazing job of meshing together and taking what we’ve had before and adding to what my vision is, and what our vision will continue to be. Building on it. And just that staff being on the same page and clicking, I think we wouldn’t have had this class without the cohesiveness that exists in all of those people that I’ve mentioned.”
Alabama on Wednesday managed to sign 21 players, including a handful of five-star prospects, such as quarterback Keelon Russell, cornerback Dijon Lee and offensive lineman Michael Carroll.
The rankings aren’t final, but it’s clear Alabama is going to have a top class. Elite recruiting hasn’t gone anywhere, even without Saban leading the program.
