GENEVA (AP) — A senior IOC official says scheduling the 2034 World Cup in Saudi Arabia back-to-back with the 2034 Salt Lake City Winter Games would pose “no risk” to the Olympics. International Olympic Committee executive Christophe Dubi says “We don’t see at this stage a major issue.” Dubi’s comments suggest January 2034 is surprisingly open for FIFA and Saudi Arabia to stage soccer’s marquee event which needs to avoid hot temperatures in June and July. That’s despite a near-clash with the Salt Lake City Olympics that will open on Feb. 10 that year. FIFA will confirm Saudi Arabia as 2034 host next week.
