North Platte’s Jada Hothan contests for the ball with Hastings’ Renata Valencia during the Bulldogs’ win over Hastings on Monday in North Platte.
Clancy Brown scored two goals and Briley Haneborg scored a goal and had two assists as the North Platte girls soccer team defeated Hastings 4-1 on Monday in the Bulldogs home finale.
“They played well. Our week is starting with a couple of regular season games, and our week is ending with our first round at districts,” North Platte coach Sarah Kaminski said. “I just challenged them to do the things that we need to prepare for districts and play the way that we need to play at districts. The girls did a good job moving the ball across the field, getting touches on it, adjusting to a few things that we needed to.”
North Platte will wrap up the regular season in Scottsbluff on Tuesday.
Abby Kaminski scored as well for North Platte. Nayely Guzman Torres scored Hastings’ only goal.
The Bulldogs got shot after shot off on Hastings in the first half, but North Platte’s first two goals came off deflections near the end of the first half. Haneborg shot the ball twice at the Hastings goalkeeper, and the ensuing deflection found North Platte players both times.
The first one found Brown, who scored her first goal on an open net with 9:39 left. The second found Kaminski, who did the same with 5:51 left.
“We talked at halftime. If you got it near the box, get a little separation and turn and take a shot,” Kaminski said. “We gave ourselves chances, and that’s what I want them to do is see the kind of chances that they can give.”
Brown quickly scored her second goal of the game off a Sydney Letourneau corner kick two minutes into the second half to put the Bulldogs ahead 3-0.
Guzman Torres scored Hastings’ only goal with 24:49 left in the game, and Haneborg scored the final goal with 10:33 left in the game. She almost scored another goal on a penalty kick, but it was saved by Hastings’ goalkeeper.
The Bulldogs improve to 8-6 on the season.
“If we play our game, we’re our best form of a soccer team out there. That’s what we’re working for. Scottsbluff will come with an aggressive team, and they’ll have some good skills, so we’ll have to come ready to play.”
