Ghana has dropped four places in November’s FIFA rankings after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana was previously ranked 73rd globally in October and 14th in Africa.
However, after a poor showing in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, one which ended with the Black Stars picking three points from three draws and losing three games, the Black Stars have fallen behind in FIFA’s rankings.
In the month of November, Ghana drew 1-1 with Angola in their penultimate AFCON 2025 qualifying game before suffering a 2-1 home loss to Niger in their final game, a defeat which cemented Ghana’s spot at the bottom of Group F.
Meanwhile, despite Ghana’s recent underwhelming performances, the Black Stars maintained their position on the African continent (14th).
The Black Stars are behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Mali, Tunisia, South Africa, DR. Congo, Burkina Faso, and Cape Verde on the continent.
Ghana’s Group F opponents, Niger, were the highest climbers in November, moving nine places up the leaderboard from 131 to 122.
The Black Stars’ ranking does not come as a surprise, as they have largely underperformed in 2024, with the team’s highest ranking being 67th in February.
Since then, Ghana has placed 68th in April, 64th in June, 68th in July, 70th in September, 73rd in October, and 77th in November.
The Black Stars return to action in March for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
