The first freeski slopestyle World Cup of the season was held Saturday in Stubai, Austria, and Parkites dominated. Colby Stevenson took home the men’s title, putting down a score of 92.
Parkites Marin Hamill and Henry Townshend also had big days. Hamill finished just off the women’s podium in fourth, and Townshend completed his first-ever World Cup. Townshend finished 32nd in the men’s event.
Troy Podmilsak also competed, finishing 15th. Salt Lake City legend Alex Hall came in 19th place.
The Stubai Cup was marred by challenging weather, with the qualification results standing in place of the final ones.
“Creativity and technicality, highlighted by left and right nose butter takeoffs,” said U.S. freeski head coach Dave Euler on Stevenson’s winning run. “So stoked for Colby taking the win! Proud of the whole team and the way they performed after a challenging week of weather.”
Tess Ledeux of France was the winner on the women’s side.
Saturday’s run was Hamill’s first since the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
“Stubai World Cups are always challenging with weather, this year especially,” added Stevenson. “It feels quite nostalgic having a victory here as this was where I had my first World Cup podium back in 2017 (third place). I’m glad to be healthy and skiing with everyone. Our team is slaying it right now! Stoked for a great season.”
The U.S. freeski team jets off next to Beijing for their big air World Cup. Including Beijing, there are 10 more World Cups on this season’s schedule. There are two U.S. World Cups, in December in Copper Mountain and January and February in Aspen.
Stevenson sits in a tie for third in the overall park and pipe men’s Cup standings. Hamill is in a tie for 12th.
