The Solano College women’s soccer team had a remarkable season, pitching eight shutouts on the way to a playoff spot.
Now that the season is over, the awards are sprinkling in for the Falcons.
The Bay Valley Conference Defender of the Year went to Rodriguez High School graduate Amanda Fokin, who coach Jeff Cardinal called “the cornerstone of the Solano defense.”
“The team captain and starting center back, she played every minute of all 19 games this season, including the Modesto playoff game,” said Cardinal. “Amanda’s defensive leadership contributed to eight shutouts throughout the season, including five against conference opponents, and limited opposing teams to just eight goals in 11 conference games.”
The conference Goalkeeper of the Year went to Juliana Jacobson, a freshman who graduated from Vacaville Christian.
“Juliana’s efforts led to five shutouts and limited opponents to eight goals during 11 conference matches,” Cardinal said. “She made an astounding 24 saves in the playoff game against Modesto and 17 saves in the season’s final conference game against Los Medanos.”
Making the first-team all-conference was Fokin, along with Katelyn Walbolt, who led the the team’s offensive charge from the center midfield, scoring eight goals and providing eight assists throughout the season, including six goals and seven assists in conference play. A clutch performer, she scored game-winning goals against Woodland and Marin, propelling Solano to the conference championship game and playoffs. She started and played all 19 games, demonstrating leadership and reliability.
Making the second team was Kalina Osorio and Itzel Urzua, along with Jacobson.
“Kalina was a versatile playmaker, contributing two goals and five assists while excelling defensively when needed,” Cardinal said. “She stepped into the center-back role during key moments, including the end-of-season tie against Los Medanos and the playoff match against Modesto. Her technical ability, defensive reliability, and vision on the ball made her an indispensable member of the team.
“Itzel’s consistent performances earned her recognition as a vital part of the back line of the squad,” Cardinal continued. “Her contributions in the defense provided balance and support for both the attack and defense. Itzel was solid all year at outside back.”
