Zimbabwe’s national football team, the Warriors, currently find themselves at the bottom of Group C in the CAF qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with just two points from four matches. They trail group leaders Rwanda by five points, with six games remaining in the campaign.
In a recent interview with ZIFA Media, Warriors head coach Michael Nees shared his thoughts on the team’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup in North America. Nees emphasized that the group is still wide open and stressed the importance of staying focused on the bigger picture.
“The group is not decided yet, and we have to see this as a new project,” said Nees. “We have to try everything and hope to turn it around. We will also have to use these qualifiers as preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), so I would say it is a double project.”
The Warriors’ World Cup qualifying journey will continue in March, when they host Benin before traveling to Nigeria. The qualifiers will resume in September, with Zimbabwe facing Benin again away from home, followed by a crucial home match against Rwanda.
The team will conclude their campaign in October with two final games: a home fixture against South Africa and an away trip to Lesotho.
The winner of the group will secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Canada, the USA, and Mexico.
