INDIANAPOLIS, IND — Following one of the best seasons in PBC history, a record-tying four conference women’s soccer teams learned they will advance to the NCAA Tournament as the national bracket was announced on Monday. Columbus State, Flagler, North Georgia and Lander all advanced to the NCAA Southeast Regional tournament, taking half of all available spots.
The tournament will begin on Friday, Nov. 22, with top-seeded Columbus State serving as one of the two regional hosts. North Georgia is the #3 seed for the regional with Flagler #5 and Lander #7. This is only the second time in PBC history four women’s soccer teams have advanced in the same year, the first coming back in 2012.
Columbus State won the PBC Tournament on Sunday with a dramatic 1-0 win over Flagler on a goal with under a minute to play. Ranked #2 in the nation, the Cougars will serve as a regional host once again, taking on eighth-seeded Francis Marion in the opening round.
Flagler will return to Columbus for the NCAA Tournament, facing fourth-seeded Catawba on Friday.
North Georgia and Lander will venture to North Carolina where second-seeded Lenior-Rhyne will host the other half of the regional. The Nighthawks will face sixth-seeded Wingate in the opening round while seventh-seeded Lander will meet host LR.
