Virginia manages to move the chains on 3rd and 11 thanks to a nice spin move and run by Xavier Brown. But then Tony Muskett is sacked on third down and the Cavaliers are forced to punt. Daniel Sparks punts out of his own end zone and Notre Dame will take over at the UVA 42-yard line.
Virginia 7, Notre Dame 35 | 12:12 4Q
The Fighting Irish leave their offense on the field on 4th and goal from the five-yard line and the UVA defense makes a huge stop, as Dorian Jones tips Leonard's pass to force the incompletion and the turnover on downs. It remains a four-touchdown game.

Virginia 0, Notre Dame 35 | 9:38 3Q
As expected, Tony Muskett is into the game now at quarterback for Virginia. The Cavaliers go three-and-out on their first possession, as Muskett is hit as he throws on third down and it falls incomplete. UVA's coverage is good on the punt and Notre Dame takes over at its own 12-yard line.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 28 | 10:59 3Q
Notre Dame picks up a couple of first downs, but then Leonard is intercepted by Trey McDonald, who makes a big play immediately after seeing the field for the first time tonight, as he missed the first half due to the targeting penalty he committed against Pitt last week. Virginia gets one back in the turnover column and takes over at the UVA 45-yard line.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 28 | 12:08 3Q
UVA picks up a first down with a nice run by Xavier Brown, but then Anthony Colandrea throws his third interception of the first half, as he stares down Malachi Fields and Xavier Watts jumps the route with ease for the pick. To make matters worse, Virginia's best defender Jonas Sanker goes down with an injury while breaking up a pass from Leonard. He eventually jogs off the field under his own power. Marcello Diomede attempts a field goal from 54 yards and it goes well wide right – that's about the only thing that went UVA's way in the first half.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 28 | Halftime
Virginia is able to move the chains on 3rd and 6 as Colandrea finds Malachi Fields over the middle of the field. Colandrea extends the play and tries to find Xavier Brown, but the pass is deflected and eventually intercepted by Leonard Moore, Virginia's third turnover of the first half, four if you count Chris Tyree's muffed kick return. Notre Dame cashes in on the takeaway, as Leonard connects with Mitchell Evans, who dives into the end zone for a touchdown. It took a little bit longer than expected, but this game has officially gotten out of hand for Virginia.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 28 | 0:49 2Q
Colandrea is nearly intercepted on his first pass and then two plays later, he actually throws an interception as Adon Shuler picks Colandrea and returns it 45 yards to the UVA 2-yard line. On the next play, Riley Leonard throws a jump pass to Cooper Flanagan for an easy touchdown. It took a few extra plays, but the Irish inevitably score their third touchdown.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 21 | 2:20 2Q
Riley Leonard throws a perfect deep ball to Jayden Harrison, who catches it in stride and runs 78 yards for a touchdown, but the points come off the board as the play comes back for an illegal hands to the face penalty on a Notre Dame offensive lineman. Virginia stops Beaux Collins short on 3rd and 22 and the Irish are forced to punt. Notre Dame fakes the punt with a different version of the fumblerooski and Jordan Faison takes it to the house 73 yards for a touchdown. The refs confer for a long time and ultimately decide to call an illegal formation penalty on Notre Dame, wiping away the touchdown. Marcus Freeman is livid of course, but the outcome is that the Irish score multiple touchdowns of 70+ yards on this drive, but ultimately score zero points and punt it away. Ethan Davies fumbles on the punt return, but Virginia recovers to avoid another disastrous mistake.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 14 | 3:08 2Q

Jadarian Price runs up the middle and picks up 20 yards and the Irish get another 10 yards on top of that for a holding penalty on Mike Diatta. Riley Leonard throws to Jaden Greathouse over the middle and he makes a man miss, running for 17 yards and another first down into Virginia territory. A few plays later, Leonard throws to Jayden Harrison on slant for an eight-yard touchdown. That punctuates a 9-play, 88-yard drive for the Fighting Irish, who extend their lead to 14-0.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 14 | 6:34 2Q
Virginia gets some positive momentum going in the ground game, as Xavier Brown gets the pitch and finds some open space on the left side for 15 yards. Two plays later, Kobe Pace runs between the tackles for 14 yards, but then takes a hit from Jordan Clark and fumbles the ball, which is immediately recovered by Rod Heard II. The Irish get the ball back and it's a major missed opportunity for the Cavaliers failing to score after the muffed punt.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 7 | 10:16 2Q
Virginia's offense continues to struggle. The Cavaliers are called for a false start and are unable to regain the yardage, so UVA goes three and out. Notre Dame punt returner Max Hurleman has the punt bounce off of his chest and it goes directly into the hands of Jonas Sanker. UVA is gifted a golden opportunity at the Notre Dame 42-yard line.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 7 | 11:34 2Q
Virginia swarms Jeremiyah Love on second down and he is gang tackled for a loss of 10 yards. The Cavaliers bring down Jordan Faison short of the first down on 3rd and 15 and Notre Dame goes three-and-out for the fourth drive in a row. We can't say enough about the performance of the UVA defense so far. It's time for the Virginia offense to join the party. Ethan Davies nearly muffs the punt, but he jumps on the ball to avoid what would have been another massive special teams miscue for the Cavaliers.

Virginia flirts with disaster again, as a trick play nearly goes terribly wrong. Malachi Fields tries to throw a deep ball to Dakota Twitty, who was double-covered and the Cavaliers were lucky that the deflected ball that went high into the air wasn't intercepted. On 3rd and 6, Colandrea has an open Chris Tyree in the flat but his pass is a little too far out in front of Tyree, who can't hold on to the ball and Virginia is forced to punt.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 7 | 14:39 2Q
Notre Dame commits another holding penalty and the UVA defense holds the Irish to a third-straight three-and-out. John Rudzinski's unit is doing their job.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 7 | 1:52 1Q
Virginia goes three-and-out for the second time today. Kobe Pace is stopped for modest gains on first and second down and then Colandrea's third down pass intended for Tyler Neville is broken up. Notre Dame gets the ball back leading 7-0.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 7 | 3:56 1Q
Notre Dame is called for a holding penalty and the UVA defense capitalizes on the Irish being behind the chains, forcing another quick Notre Dame punt. The Cavalier defensive unit is largely doing its job so far in keeping the Hoos in the game.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 7 | 5:27 1Q
Colandrea connects with Malachi Fields on a slant for a 27-yard pickup on UVA's first play of the drive. Virginia is called for a false start and then Colandrea overthrows Chris Tyree on a deep ball down the left sideline. Xavier Brown is tackled for a loss to set up 3rd and 16 and then Colandrea scrambles up the middle and is tackled just shy of the line to gain. On 4th and 2, Colandrea tries to find Tyler Neville, but the pass is tipped at the line of scrimmage and falls incomplete. UVA turns the ball over on downs near midfield.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 7 | 7:47 1Q

Good response by the Cavalier defense. James Rendell unleashes a booming punt that goes 64 yards to the flip the field for Notre Dame.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 7 | 10:16 1Q
Virginia's offense goes three-and-out on its first possession, as Anthony Colandrea is tackled on a QB keeper shy of the line to gain on 3rd and 4. Daniel Sparks nearly has his punt blocked, but he sends off a solid punt that goes 51 yards and UVA's coverage is good. Notre Dame will take over at its own 20-yard line.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 7 | 11:11 1Q
It's a disastrous start for the Cavaliers, as Notre Dame transfer Chris Tyree has the opening kickoff go off his knee and directly to the Fighting Irish, who take over with the ball at the UVA 25-yard line to start the game. Notre Dame picks up a first down and then it appeared that Virginia's defense got off the field holding the Irish to a field goal, but Kam Robinson was called for roughing the passer on a late hit on Riley Leonard. On the next play, Leonard gives to Jeremiyah Leonard, who scampers untouched into the end zone for a four-yard touchdown.
Virginia 0, Notre Dame 7 | 13:04 1Q
Notre Dame won the coin toss and elected to defer to the second half. UVA will receive the ball to start the game.
Virginia's captains for today's game are Chris Tyree, Dillon Tennyson, Michael Diatta, and Bryce Carter.
One pregame injury note for Virginia: according to Greg Madia of the Daily Progress, senior linebacker James Jackson has been a full participant in pregame warmups and looks to be able to play after missing the last three games with a foot injury.
