Janine Flock second at IBSF World Cup in PyeongChang ahead of Nicole Silveira
PyeongChang (RWH) Surprise victory at the World Cup opener of the pre-Olympic season for Amelia Coltman of Great Britain: At the first event of the IBSF World Cup 2024/25 at the PyeongChang Olympic Sliding Center (KOR), the 2024 European Championships bronze medallist made it onto the World Cup podium for the first time. With the second-best time in the second run, the Briton moved up from 15th place to finish first in the finale.
Second place at the World Cup opener went to Janine Flock of Austria (0.08 seconds back). The three-time European Champion was in the lead after the first World Cup run, but then narrowly missed out on her first World Cup victory since December 2021.
Nicole Rocha Silveira (BRA, 0.13 seconds back) finished third in the World Cup in PyeongChang. The Brazilian, the 2021 North American Cup overall winner, made it from 13th place in the first race run to her first World Cup podium finish.
Olympic Champion Hannah Neise (GER) and World Champion Hallie Clarke (CAN) finished tied for sixth place in the World Cup. Defending World Cup title holder Kimberley Bos of the Netherlands, second after the first run in PyeongChang, finished eighth.
Corinna Leipold (GER) was the best World Cup debutant in PyeongChang, finishing in ninth place.
After the first of eight races, Amelia Coltman (GBR, 225 points) leads the overall standings for the IBSF World Cup 2024/25 ahead of Janine Flock (AUT, 210) and Nicole Rocha Silveira (BRA, 200).
