College football has instituted a game-changer with the introduction of an expanded College Football Playoff format, now accommodating 12 teams instead of the previous four. This significant change promises a more intense and competitive 2024 season, offering more teams across the nation a shot at the national title. The College Football Playoff selection committee is just days away from releasing the third set of rankings, which will showcase the standings after Week 12 games.
The second set of rankings underscored the high stakes of each game played in the final month of the season. The Big Ten continued its impressive run in the second rankings, with three teams in the Top 4: No. 1 Oregon, No. 2 Ohio State and No. 4 Penn State. Texas secured the No. 3 position in the rankings.
However, because champions of the Power Four conferences automatically get the top four seeds, the rankings do not necessarily reflect the bracket, which would boost Texas out of the SEC to the No. 2 seed, BYU (No. 6 in the rankings) to the No. 3 seed from the Big 12 and Miami (No. 9 in the rankings) to the No. 4 seed from the ACC. Oregon as projected champion of the Big Ten would retain the top seed.
Each week of action can significantly shake up the standings, making it a nail-biting time for every team. For those eager for the third set of College Football Playoff rankings, here’s how to catch next week’s show to see where your team falls.
