WOLFFORTH — The Frenship football team scored six first-quarter touchdowns en route to a 77-21 romp over El Paso Montwood in a Class 6A Division II bi-district playoff Friday at Peoples Bank Stadium.
The Tigers scored on the game’s first play to foreshadow the teams’ disparity. Frenship led 42-0 after the first quarter and had its reserves in soon after.
Holden Phillips, the South Plains’ leading passer, threw for four TDs and ran for another in limited action. The Tigers also got a 52-yard punt-return TD from Damian Lozano.
Jordan Hernandez added a rushing score, and reserve running back Mateo Roberson had a pair of TDs on the ground.
Frenship (10-1) will enter the second round on a 10-game winning streak. The Tigers will face Southlake Carroll, the third-ranked team in 6A. The Dragons (11-0) knocked out Frenship 49-14 in the same round last season.
