• The Nicholls State University football team wraps up its road slate with Saturday afternoon matchup with the Lamar Cardinals. While both teams are no longer in contention for the league title, the winner will climb back to .500 in the standings. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

• The all-time series between Nicholls and Lamar is knotted up at 7-7 following the Colonels’ win last season. Nicholls rushed for over 300 yards while the defense came away with three turnovers, leading the Colonels to a 37-24 victory over Lamar to secure the Southland Conference’s auto bid into the FCS playoffs and the program’s third regular season title in six years. Collin Guggenheim finished with over 100 yards on the ground for the second straight game, toting the ball 18 times for 113 yards. Nicholls has won six of the last seven meetings.

• Nicholls is looking to bounce from a tough loss at HCU last Saturday, falling for the second straight game. A 50-yard field goal with a minute remaining gave HCU its first lead of the day and Nicholls was unable to tie it back up after its own attempts as the Colonels suffered a 24-21 loss, snapping a nine-game winning streak in the series. The Colonels outgained HCU on offense, 342-293, but the bulk of the Huskies’ total came in the second half as they erased a 14-0 halftime deficit after being held to 25 yards in the first half.

• Lamar closes out its home schedule looking to snap its own two-game skid after being defeated by the top two teams in the league — Southeastern and UIW — over the past few weeks. The Cardinals and Colonels are in a logjam in the middle of the standings, tied at 2-3 with three other teams. A win would guarantee Lamar at least a .500 overall mark for the season and give the Cardinals a 6-2 record in Beaumont against Nicholls.

A WIN OVER LAMAR WOULD…
… put Nicholls ahead in the all-time series, 8-7, with its seventh win out of the last eight meetings.
… improve the Colonels’ record to 21-10 in November under Coach Rebowe.
… prevent a three-game skid in league play. Nicholls has not lost three SLC games in a row since 2015.
… improve Coach Rebowe’s record in the SLC to 49-28.
… improve Rebowe’s record vs. Texas schools to 32-19.
… be the third SLC win on the season. Nicholls has not won fewer than three in the nine seasons under Coach Rebowe.
