Manchester United have appointed a new manager in Ruben Amorim but he was far from the only manager linked with replacing Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United brought an end to the Erik ten Hag era in October and wasted little time in finding his replacement.
Just days after Ten Hag’s departure, United confirmed the appointment of new boss Ruben Amorim.
Amorim has now arrived in Manchester having agreed to stay with Sporting until the international break.
United fans are excited to see Amorim get down to work at Old Trafford and will hope that Ineos have found the right man for the job.
Untied were linked with so many managers within hours of Ten Hag’s exit.
One name was mentioned even before Ten Hag had gone with Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi linked to United.
Luring Inzaghi away from Inter is next going to be easy but the interest was understandable.
Inzaghi has won one Serie A title with Inter and guided them to the Champions League final in 2023.
Nothing came of the United speculation but former Italy international Marco Materazzi still thinks that Old Trafford woulds suit Inzaghi.
Speaking on The Italian Football Podcast, former Inter star Materazzi admitted that he wants Inzaghi to stay at Milan.
However, Materazzi feels that Inzaghi would suit the Premier League well and three jobs stand out to him.
Materazzi believes United would be a great fit for Inzaghi, but so would Arsenal and even Manchester City.
“Inter fans, I hope he stays at Inter because his job is not finished yet, but I think his profile is a good profile for the Premier League,” said Materazzi.
“Arteta is one of the best now at at Arsenal, but Arsenal is one club for me, for Simeone, Manchester United too. Why not Manchester City? You know the problems they have at the moment, nobody knows what Pep will do, but I hope Simone stays at Inter.
“I’m not his manager, I’m not his friend, we have a good relationship but I cannot decide on his fate,” he added.
Inzaghi’s credentials are hugely impressive and would certainly put him in contention for a job like United.
INeos have just made a big managerial call though, ditching Ten Hag to bring in Amorim.
This is certainly a move with the long term in mind; Amorim is only 39 and United would not have gone for him without believing that he would be in charge for a long time.
The United job has been something of a poisoned chalice in recent years – we can’t get away from that fact.
We have genuine hope of Amorim having a long and fruitful spell as United boss though and believe there won’t be need to target Inzaghi or anybody else for a while.
