A committed performance earned Venezuela a point as it held Brazil to a 1-1 draw in their FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier at the Monumental Stadium of Maturin on Thursday.
Raphinha scored in the 43rd minute to score the opening goal for the Selecao, but Telasco Segovia found the equaliser in the 46th minute for Venezuela’s equaliser.
Vinicius Junior had the chance to give the lead to Brazil after winning a penalty in the 61st minute but saw his spot-kick saved by Rafael Romo. The Real Madrid forward had a chance to score on the rebound but botched his effort, sending the ball out for a goalkick.

The final minutes were nervy for Venezuela as it was reduced to 10 men after Alexander Gonzalez saw a red card in the 89th minute, but buoyed by strong home support, it held on to earn a precious point.
The draw keeps Brazil third in the standings with 17 points from 11 matches.
Argentina and Colombia occupy first and second place, with both teams having a match in hand.
