ENID, Okla. — They may be out of the playoff picture, but Enid’s soccer teams will still have plenty to play for Friday when the Pacers and Plainsmen host Putnam City North in a 5:30 p.m. girls-boys doubleheader at the Advance Soccer Complex.
Both teams are 6-7 and can finish at .500 for the season with wins. It will be both the final home game and varsity game for the program’s seniors, who will be recognized.
Putnam City North’s girls are 3-9 overall and 0-5 in district. The boys are 6-6 and 2-3 with a shot of still making the postseason.
“It’s going to be very emotional,” said Plainsmen coach Jorge Cabada. “This is not the way we want to end the season, but there are some things that you can’t control (EHS has had 10 players miss games with injuries). You want to end the season on a high note and send the seniors off to a beautiful sunset.”
Cabada’s son, James, who broke his collarbone in a 3-0 loss at Owasso Tuesday, will be one of those seniors. Coach Cabada said he will get him in the game.
Other seniors are Jose Camarena, Sebastian Gutierrez, Oswaldo Herrera and Alex Chavez. Managers are Ariela Hicks and Yohanny Flores.
“We want to honor all of them for what they have done for our program and show them our appreciation,” said coach Cabada.
There are 18 juniors on the program’s roster and coach Cabada sees this as a time to build momentum for the 2025 campaign.
“This is the time for them to put themselves on the radar,” Cabada said. “There’s a lot to play for. This is the time to start building for the future.”
David Smith leads the Plainsmen in scoring with seven goals.
The visiting Panthers are coming off a 3-1 loss to Yukon.
The Pacers will be bidding farewell to seniors Karlie Earhart, Tabitha Miller, Marcela Lozano, Marissa Chavez and Rita Lopez-Ramirez as well as manager Erica Hobbs.
“We have a great group of seniors,” said Pacers coach Tim Lavoie. “They have been great on and off the field and we’re looking forward to taking the opportunity to celebrate what they have accomplished. We wish them well in future endeavors.”
With EHS out of the playoff picture, the Pacers have the rare opportunity of ending the season with a victory, making Senior Night even more special.
“We want to send them off on a good note and with a good memory of Pacer soccer,” he said. “If we can win, we’re .500, which is a lot better than a losing record.”
Chavez has signed with NOC Enid. Hobbs will be a manager at Southern Nazarene.
Baylee Ross, who was injured in Tuesday’s 4-0 loss at Owasso, has been ruled out of the contest.
Putnam City North suffered a 4-0 loss to Yukon Tuesday. EHS beat the Lady Panthers in the preseason.
“We will have to work hard and trust each other,” Lavoie said. “We have to make sure we stick to our game plan and play our game. We like to feel we have the blue collar mentality that reflects the people of Enid who work hard for everything they have. If we do that, the winning and losing will take care of itself.”
Ava Burnett leads the Pacers in scoring with eight goals.
The EHS soccer teams have either won or lost together in doubleheaders this season.
