A letter issued by FIFA’s head of Disciplinary Américo Spillage on November 6, 2024, reveals that the club has not complied with a decision requiring the settlement of the Nigerian keeper’s salary.
As a consequence, FIFA has enforced a worldwide registration ban, preventing Gardnerville FC from signing new players internationally until the outstanding amount is paid in full.
Additionally, FIFA has instructed the Liberian Football Association to impose a similar restriction at the national level.
“We refer to the above-mentioned matter, as well as the decision passed by FIFA in the matter ref. no. FPSD-14305 (the Decision).”
“In this context, it appears that, despite the decision, the Gardnersville Football Club “Gardnersville FC” (the Respondent) has not yet complied with its financial obligations towards the Abel Ekene Ani.
“In this regard, we wish to inform the parties that a ban from registering new players internationally has been implemented by FIFA on the Respondent. The registration ban will remain active until the amount due is paid,”
“Lastly, the Liberia Football Association is requested to immediately implement on the Respondent a ban from registering new players at national level, if not done yet.
“We thank you for your kind attention to the above and for your valuable cooperation,” FIFA communication to the LFA states.
Goalkeeper Ani, early 2024, won his legal battle against Orange Second Division team Gardnerville Football Club after a lengthy struggle to get his unpaid salary and wages addressed.
Gardnerville Football Club terminated Ani’s contract without mutual consent, prompting him to file a complaint with FIFA, seeking judgment.
FIFA issued a statement ordering Gardnerville Football Club to pay Abel $4,600 in compensation for breach of contract.
In addition to the $4,600 compensation, Gardnerville FC were asked to also pay Ani his seven months’ salary, amounting to $1,400, plus 5% interest.
According to FIFA, If Gardnerville FC fail to meet their obligations, an additional 5% will be added to the payment for each month they miss Ani’s payments.
Gardnerville Football Club were given 45 days to complete the payment and have not settled the payment of Ani.
